At the end of last month, 25 of our Sixth Formers headed to London to take part in Fast Trackers, a three day STEM event headed up by Network Rail and Mott MacDonald and in collaboration with Industrial Cadets, Greater Manchester Higher and Higher Horizons +. Competing against other 16-19 year olds from the North West, the students had a packed 3 days, including visits to the Institution of Civil Engineering and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and guided tours around St Pancras and London Bridge stations to prepare them for the main event.
The Sixth Formers were put into groups and had to create a presentation which showcased their design for a new station complex at Euston Station and a new high speed rail link between Birmingham and Euston. They did a fantastic job and two of our teams got into the final, with one of them winning the top prize. To top it off, our student Christine won an individual prize for excelling in her leadership skills.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to further enhance their team work and presentation skills, and really get stuck in to an interesting project, especially with the developments of HS2 in Crewe. We look forward to competing again and in more external competitions in the future!
