In Sixth Form we will prepare our students to progress on to Employment, University or High Apprenticeship. There are lots of different pathways available which can be tailored to a student’s career goals and ambitions.
What will I study?
There are two main options students can choose from when building their subject pathway.
A Levels and Level 3 Technical Levels
We offer a range of A-Levels and Level 3 Technical Levels to students looking at joining our Sixth Form. Dependant on GCSE grades, students can pick 3 or 4 subjects from the following:
- Art & Graphic Design Double Award
- Engineering Double Award
- Engineering Single Award
- Engineering BTEC Level 3 Double
- Product Design
- Business Studies
- Computer Science
- Maths A-Level
- Maths Level 3 Core
The Technical Baccalaureate (Tech Bacc) was created for students who want to pursue a technically orientated career. The Tech Bacc consists of Maths (Core or A-Level), 1 Engineering Technical and Extended Project. However, students have the option, dependent on GCSE grades, to take a double or single route and pursue the Extended Technical Baccalaureate. This could also mean taking on an additional A Level or a double option in an Engineering Technical. Students will pick from the same subject options above.
If you’re looking at what options to choose, you can find out more about each subject by downloading our prospectus.
We are looking for students to achieve at minimum five Level 4’s at GCSE to be accepted on to one of our pathways. If a student doesn’t pass English Literature, English Language or Maths, they will resit the exam at the UTC alongside their chosen subjects. Some subject options will be looking for specific grades at GCSE to undertake the course. However, if the target grade isn’t achieved, there may be an opportunity to pick an option on a trial basis.
What else will I do?
The Extended Project qualification is required for any student undertaking the Technical Baccalaureate, however, all Sixth Form students will study this qualification.
