Careers Advice & Guidance

Your Careers Advisor

My name is John Knight and I’m your Careers Advisor here at the Crewe Engineering & Design UTC. I have worked as a Careers Advisor for almost 25 years and prior to this worked in both Engineering and Logistics.

As a Careers Advisor, my role involves working with students and helping them to develop their career plans and make informed and realistic decisions for themselves about which direction to take after completing their time at the UTC, this could be looking for an Apprenticeships after year 11 or 13 or choosing a University Degree.

The range of options you will have becomes ever more confusing, with Apprenticeships, Higher Apprenticeships, Degree Apprenticeships and full time Degrees to choose from.

I can help students in a variety of different ways, whether it is giving information about apprenticeship schemes, talking with sixth form students about likely career progression routes, Apprenticeship or University interview preparation or giving advice to students in Years 11 or 13 about options available to them post Crewe UTC.

I will be based here at Crewe Engineering & Design UTC every other Monday in room JL_0_34, where I will be offering guidance interviews, group work and talks with students. All students will have access to a one and one careers interview during the academic year, these interviews should be seen as the start of your journey to making an informed choice.

Any student who wishes to meet with me earlier for help with, for example, University applications, CV writing, Interview preparation, Apprenticeship searches – you will be able to make an appointment to see me through Mrs Whim or Mr Graham.

I look forward to getting to know more of you over the months ahead.
