Technical Baccalaureate

Technical Baccalaureates (Tech Bacc) were created for students who want to pursue a technically orientated career. The Tech Bacc consist of Maths (Core or A Level), 1 Engineering Technical and Extended Project. However, students have the option, dependent on grades, to take a double or single route and pursue the Extended Technical Baccalaureate. This could mean taking an additional A Level or a double in an Engineering technical.

Students can pick from the following:

  • Art & Graphic Design Single Award
  • Art & Graphic Design Double Award
  • Engineering Double Award
  • Engineering Single Award
  • Engineering BTEC Level 3 Double

  • Maths Level 3 Core

Extended Project

All students will study Extended Project.

What is Extended Project?

Extended Project is the equivalent to an AS Level and is required to achieve the Technical Baccalaureate and will be additional if studying 3 or 4 subjects. Students will study this for just 1 year and will have the option to do an essay or a split between an essay and making an artefact. The topic chosen is completely up to the student and doesn’t necessarily have to be around Engineering and Design. This AS Level will develop student’s skills in research, essay writing, time management, referencing and presentations.

Some of the topics our students have done include:

What effect has global warming had on the car industry?

Are serial killers born or made?

Is culture misunderstood or misused?

Does height matter when you play basketball professionally?
